About Animal House

The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Department of Pharmacy) has an approved animal house by Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCASE) with approval granted for Research and Education (Registration No: GO/Re/S/06/CPCSEA) under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act 1960 as amended in 1982 under which the Government has made "Breeding of and Experiments on Animals (Control and Supervision) Rules, 1998" as amended during 2001 and 2006, to regulate the experimentation on animals. The meeting of the IAEC is called once or twice in a year depending on the number of research applications. In the IAEC meeting the CPCSEA nominees namely one Main nominee, Link nominee, Scientists for outside institute and Socially aware nominee along with 5 members from the institute, Inspects the animal house facility, scrutinizes the applications for conducting research on small animals and also ensures the bio-safety as per the norms laid down by the CPCSEA in Compendium of CPCSEA, 2018. Thereafter, the minutes of the IAEC meeting and the observation made by the CPCSEA nominees during the animal house visit are submitted to the CPCSEA using online portal (www.cpcsea.nic.in) by CPCSEA Main nominee and also by the institute for further examination and record. The CPCSEA Main nominee also conducts surprise visit to the institute animal house for ensuring that all the CPCSEA norms for ethics in animal research and bio-safety measures are followed and maintained by institute as per CPCEASE norms amended time to time.
